3/14 (aka 3.141592653)- A perfect day for Math Geeks, Einstein Lovers, and Admirers of Pi.
Happy International Pi Day!
Happy Birthday, Albert Einstein!
One of history’s most celebrated thinkers would have turned 135 (Born: March 14, 1879) today. He was known for his simplicity, and to quote, “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” His numerous contributions to physics include the special and general theories of relativity, mass-energy equivalence, the theory of photons, and many other topics. This German-born USA citizen received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics for his contributions.
Einstein was famously recorded saying this, “When you are courting a nice girl, an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder, a second seems like an hour. That’s relativity.”, to make a lay man understand his work.
In addition to the work he did by himself, he also collaborated with other scientists on additional projects including the Bose–Einstein statistics. He believed in science, art, and philosophy. On July 14, 1930, Albert Einstein welcomed the Indian philosopher, Rabindranath Tagore, into his home on the outskirts of Berlin. The two proceeded to have one of the most stimulating, intellectually riveting conversations in history, exploring the age-old friction between science and religion.
While Albert Einstein, who has been considered as one of the foremost geniuses of the 20th century, has transformed scientists’ understanding of physics and astronomy with his theories, the intellect of Einstein himself has remained misunderstood. Ever since pathologist Dr. Thomas Harvey harvested the scientist’s brain in 1955, researchers have tried to crack the mystery of Einstein’s genius by observing the brain.
KYS wishes to keep up the scientific acumen and keep inspiring you all with the likes of Einstein. Mark these words from Albert Einstein and chant it whenever you feel blue – “A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new.”
