Who: Malini Parmar
Education: BE in Civil Engineering from Delhi College of Engineering; PGDM from IIM Kolkata.
Malini Parmar’s life is now filled with waste. Literally! Malini started her careers an IT professional and spent several years working in the field. At a certain point, however, she started wondering if she could give back to her community. She took a year off to explore the service field and see where she could give back.
The answer became clear to her while she was volunteering – it was time to explore waste management. Malini says, “I am an accidental activist, and since earning a living was a necessity, I became a social entrepreneur too. Garbage just happened to me! I had been working as a volunteer in the space and felt very strongly that there was a problem that needed to be solved. And in the process also create more flexible employment for women.”
With the help of some friends who also felt strongly about waste management, Malini began Stonesoup.in. The organisation is working towards helping people and communities change their ways and become greener.
Stonesoup.in do sustainability consulting, composting and conducting workshops for students to teach them about the environment. The organisation even designed and manufactured menstrual cups to cut down on the non-bio degradable waste we consume.
Malini believes if we all work together, we can create a better and cleaner future. She says, “We all have to do our part – Modiji alone cannot accomplish Swachh Bharat.”
