Do you like to draw? If you’ve ever spent some time doodling at the back of your notebooks or just colouring beautiful pictures – who knows? Maybe one day you will also be a famous artist like Vilas Nayak.
Vilas Nayak grew up loving art and wanting to do something great. He grew up in Ujire, a small village near Mangalore. When he was younger, he loved to draw and spent hours sketching. Vilas didn’t come from a rich family and spent his childhood studying hard and helping his father at his shop. Vilas and his family didn’t know anything about being an artist, so instead of studying art, he focussed on other subjects.
It was in college that Vilas truly realised that he had talent. He discovered that not only could he draw well but he could do it faster than anyone else! But though he loved art, he realised he couldn’t take it up as a profession just yet. First, he needed to earn some money and support his family. So, after college, he joined IBM, a big technology company, as a talent manager for a few years. Once he had enough money, he went back to his first love – painting!
He participated in a big competitive TV show – India’s Got Talent. Though he didn’t win the competition, his talent, enthusiasm and passion made him famous. Today, Vilas has met many famous people who love his work like Dalai Lama, Sachin Tendulkar, Shah Rukh Khan and Dr. Abdul Kalam. He is a real star!
Vilas’ degree in Social Work has really helped him become a more compassionate and understanding person. Because of what he learned in college, he now wants to use his art to make the world a better place. Vilas is very devoted to helping underprivileged and disabled kids. His heart’s as big as his talent!
