Monday Truclusions – Appreciating The Wisdom And Miracles Of Motherhood

Welcome to this week’s Monday Truclusions! Yesterday was Mother’s day, folks. Every year on this day, most moms complain that their kids do not wish them and we, including me sometimes, in our own defence say,

“Mom, I don’t believe in one official Mother’s day, for me every day is Mother’s day. I love you the same every day, so why exhibit my love on just one day?”

I agree that we all value our moms, but the need for Mother’s day is justified because every emotion needs exhibition at some point in time. Every single drop of love needs to be showered. Otherwise, why do we celebrate our own birthdays? After all, every time we throw a birthday party, we have grown older and weaker, no great reason to celebrate is it?

Thanks to Truclusions, this year I get to dedicate this article to my mother. However, all my write ups are in a way dedicated to my mother. But this one is especially dedicated to you, mom. Here’s wishing you a very happy Mother’s day!

The Value Of A Promise

Now, let me tell you guys three wonderful stories that showcase how mothers have the greatest of impacts on our lives.

They say that a mother is the first and best teacher. The following story is the first lesson I learnt from my mom about stiThey say that a mother is cking to your word and keeping the promises you make – even if it’s at a risk to your life! Here’s how the story goes:

Once upon a time, in a village, there lived a domesticated cow. What made the cow very special and her master’s favourite was her obedience. Then, one day when she went to graze in the woods next to the village, a tiger began to stalk her. When the cow noticed the tiger, he was just about to pounce on her.

She turned to face the tiger and very gently, with tears sparkling in her eyes, said, “I know you are very hungry, O’ great beast, and I will not deny you the means of satisfying your hunger. The only request I make of you is to grant me a little time. I shall feed my little calf one last time and come back to be your feast.”

The tiger laughed and roared,“You think I am a fool to believe you and let you go?” The cow very humbly replied,“Not at all, I give you my word that I will come back by nightfall.”

The tiger, for some strange reason, was intrigued by the earnest request the cow made. He said, “Alright, I shall wait for you till nightfall, but if you don’t turn up, I shall attack the whole village and innocents will die.”

The cow went back home to feed her little calf for the last time. She told him to be a good calf and not to get into trouble while she was gone. She requested the other cows to take care of her calf. Then, she silently slipped out and returned to the jungle to keep her promise to the tiger.

The tiger was astonished to see the cow return to the jaws of death. Overwhelmed by emotions, the tiger allowed the cow to return to her calf unharmed.

Protected By A Mother’s Wisdom

The second story I am going to narrate to you is of a Brahmin who lived in a village with his mother. One day, he had to go to the far off city, which required crossing the woods. The man’s mother advised him to take someone along with him for the journey.

But the man said that there was nothing to worry about as the forest was not home to any fierce animals. He planned to go to the city, complete his work and return by the next evening. However, his mother insisted that he at least take her pet mongoose with him.

The man agreed in order to placate his mother. He kept the animal in his bag, along with some camphor balls that he always carried. After walking through the woods for awhile, he felt tired and decided to eat his food and rest under a tree.

As he slept, the smell of camphor attracted a venomous snake. The snake entered the bag and began to sniff the camphor. The mongoose killed it, and the Brahmin woke up to see that the snake, which could have potentially killed him, lying dead next to him.

That was when the Brahmin understood the worth of his mother’s advice.

Mother Nature In All Her Glory

The third story I had mentioned is not just a story, but a miracle of Mother Nature. Yes, I am talking about the green turtles. Thousands of these turtles swim approximately 2000 km – from Brazil to Ascension island – to lay their eggs.

The turtle usually lays its eggs in big pits, which they dig with their feet. They then cover up these pits to protect and incubate their eggs. To fool predators, they also dig false pits as decoys. Their instincts don’t allow them to stay on the island until the eggs hatch, but the mother in them ensures that they do all they can to protect the hatchlings.

What happens afterwards is a miracle of Mother Nature. After all, how do these baby turtles make their way back to the sea? How do they know that the sea is their best bet for survival? It is because of an organism called phytoplankton, which is luminescent in seawater. Not knowing where to go, these babies follow the light that is emitted from these planktons and reach the sea.

Isn’t it food for thought? How nature gives all forms a fair opportunity to thrive. Is this not a trait that is the embodiment of motherhood? We are killing her every day – isn’t it time to change?
