Hello! I welcome you to a new edition of Monday Truclusions. First of all let me apologise for my long slumber from the column, but now I am back and I hope you will enjoy this edition of truclusions!
While I Was Gone!
Before I start, I would like share a very happy and proud moment with you.
I recently published my first fiction work that I co-authored with Mr. Madhava Sharma. The book is called “The Relic” and I want to thank you! Not just because you could be one of the many readers who pre-ordered my book in order to crowdfund my dream of becoming a published author, but also because you encouraged me, showed faith in me and gave me confidence that I can write by being regular readers of my Monday Truclusions.

The Father, Son And The Donkey
Now let’s get back to today’s Truclusions, and since it’s a comeback week for me. Like always let’s begin with a short story, and it goes like this-
There was a father and son duo who lived in a village. They had a pet donkey. One day the trio went on a journey. After they walked for a couple of miles, the father felt his son was really tired. So he asked his son to sit on the donkey. As they continued their journey they met a few people.
The people who walked by saw them and commented, “How insensitive of the son who is making his father walk and he himself is comfortably sitting on the donkey; the father and son heard this and the son asked his dad to sit on the donkey, while he would walk.”
A few miles ahead they met some more people who were of the opinion that the father was selfish and made his young son walk! Hearing this both men decide to ride on the donkey. After some more distance was covered the two men heard people abusing them for riding together on the poor animal.
The father realized whatever they do people will always have an opinion and hence one must follow what their heart wants to do, because most times, the heart always advises you the right thing!
Women – Nothing Without Them
Today I would like to talk about a part of the society that keeps making comebacks in our lives in various forms and roles. It is none other than women! In a male dominant society we always believe men get the right to make decisions automatically. Women have been experiencing constant turmoil with the society for their existence. The woman has always had to play second fiddle, no matter how capable she is. It is sad that we have never been able to understand that the word “HE” is a part of the word “SHE”!
The society has very comfortably decided that a woman cannot stand on the same level as her male counterpart, mostly because she is physically weaker than him. We have constantly failed to understand that a woman can push her limits to extents that we can’t even imagine. Think about it; when she can bring a new life into this world and nurture it, what can’t she do?
Priya Jhingan – First Woman Cadet To Join The Army
On that note, I’d like to introduce to you two such brave hearts who believed that they could chase their dreams, that they could break the stereotype and they did! They made the whole world look up to her!
In 1992, General Sunith Francis Rodrigues – the then chief of army staff, received a letter from Priya Jhingan, which stated her request to serve the Indian army. She mentioned how wearing the uniform and serving the nation was more important to her than the biggest salary one could offer.
Serving the defence forces had always been her greatest dream. But for a woman to join the army was unheard of back then. Imagine how the people around her would have reacted, when they heard of her ambition! But none the less the army chief responded in a positive way.
She received a letter from the army chief that he would probably be able to hire women in a year or two. While she waited to hear from the army again, she studied at the law school. Growing up as a police officer’s daughter made her a fighter. That helped, because the journey from being the first woman cadet in the army to qualifying as an officer was a difficult stretch. No differentiation was made based on gender, which meant she had to go through the same strenuous physical training that the male cadets did!
Eventually she was offered a Judge Advocate General’s post since she was a law graduate. After a decade of great service, she had just one disappointment, and that was that she never got a chance to serve in the infantry division!
Preethi Choudhary – The First Lady Officer To Win “Sword of Honor”
Inspired by such fiesty women was the woman who went on to win the “Sword of Honor” – Lt. Preethi Choudhary! She was the first lady officer to win the honor in the history of Indian army.
The Sword of honour is is awarded to the First Cadet in overall order of merit. An Officer Cadet has to perform exceedingly well in Physical tests, Academic Training, Weapon Training, Leadership Qualities, Field Engineering and Drill and also win competitions like Cross Country run, Boxing, Debate etc.
This week I dedicate my Monday Truclusions to all those women who not only have the tender hearts and constantly strive to make our lives better, but also have the mettle to show that they are no less in any way and can achieve the most impossible feat if they set their minds on it.
