Dr. Piya Sorcar, originally from Colorado, belongs to a family that boasts of many artists, which she is thankful for. She completed her PhD and her Master’s degree from Stanford University. She was included in the list of top 35 innovators in the world under the age 35, by the MIT technology review.
Piya founded the non-profit organisation, TeachAIDS, and is currently the CEO here. This organisation was founded in the year 2009, and can be signified by these main keywords – Free, Culturally Tailored, Research-Based, and HIV/AIDS Tutorials. Over the years, TeachAIDS has generated softwares and come up with educational technology to help various problems prevalent around the word, with great focus on HIV/AIDS prevention.
Piya provides these softwares free-of-cost. They are growing in popularity and now find application in NGOs, government organisations, and healthcare institutions, spread across over 70 countries around the world. India, China, the US, and South Africa are some of the countries who have immensely benefited from them. Yet, the organisation is getting generous funding and support from many institutions and other organisations.
Apart from TeachAIDS, Piya has dabbled in many technology-related non-profit startups as one of the founding members. Having been a Screenplay Consultant for children’s educational programs that have won international awards, she was nominated for the part of Lead Actress for the Regional Emmy Award.
