Pravin Godkhindi was born in Gadag, Karnataka in 1973.
He picked up a flute at the tender age of 3 and has not put it down ever since. Father, Venkatesh Godkhindi is an imminent flutist and Brother Kiran Godhkindi is a tabla artist. His 12 year old son, Shadaj is following his family’s musical footsteps and has already given several live performances with the flute.
As his father worked for All India Radio, his education has been in multiple places including Goa, Gadag, Hyderabad, Delhi, Mysore and Dharwad. Later in life, Pravin moved to Bangalore to start off his musical career.
Pravin performed in public for the first time at the age of six and won numerous prestigious awards since then. He won the first place in A I R’s national level competition at the age of 18 years. In 1991, when Pravin was 21, he was awarded the A grade in Akashvani. He completed his BE in Electrical Engineering in the same year. Pravin won the Aryabhatta for his composition of the title song of TV soap Malebillu. For the first time in India, three generations of flutists shared the stage at a concert in 2007. Pravin has performed Solo and Fusion around the globe and enjoys a big fan following. Incidentally, Pravin is the first Hindustani bansuri artiste to receive the “Top Ranking Artiste” title from south India, awarded by Akashvani(AIR). And also, he is the first Indian to play Hindustani music on the 8 feet contrabass flute. He calls it God’s Bansi.
