Sangeeta Katti was born on Saraswati Pooja Day of Dasara, on 7th October to Dr. H. A. Katti and Smt Bharati Katti in Dharwad, Karnataka. Sangeeta’s journey of music started with blessings from the legendary Sangeet Samrat, Naushad Sahab, at a young age of 4. He described Sangeeta as, a ”Wonder in Music ”.
Her first guru was Pt. Sheshagiri Dandapur from Dharwad, under whose guidance she gained a strong foundation in music. Later on she continued her learning from Guru Pt. Chandrashekar Puranikmath of Dharwad, who trained her in Khayal Gayaki. He introduced her to the legend of Kirana-Gwalior Gharana, Padmabhushan Pt. Basavaraj Rajguru, under whose able tutelage, Sangeeta learnt for 12 years. Now Sangeeta is learning under Gana Saraswati Padma Vibhushana Smt. Kishori of Jaipur, Atrauli Gharana. Sangeeta honed her skills in rendering Daswani/Santwani (Bhajans) under Sri Anantachar Katgeri (Dasaru) of Dharwad. He would teach her Sangeeta at her home in the evenings.
Sangeeta Katti moved to Bangalore in 1998 after she married Mr. Manmohan Kulkarni. She was a teaching faculty in Hindustani Vocal Music at Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Bengaluru. Sangeeta has built a nest in the hearts of her Kannada audience, with her Bhavageethe, Bhaktigeethe, Daasavani, Vachana Sahitya, Jaanapada, and film songs. Having successfully toured abroad, all over UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Gulf, and Canada, Sangeeta is the most popular figure there too.
Sangeeta Katti is an ‘A’ grade artist in Classical and Light Music, both on AIR and television, with a rich experience of singing in nine different languages. She stood 1st in State in Junior, Senior, and Vidwat exams in Hindustani Classical Vocal. She had been the recipient of the AIR Annual Award in Hindustani Classical and Light Music.
Sangeeta Katti recorded her first Bhajan Album, Dasamanjari, at a young age of 13. She has worked with renowned South Indian music directors, such as Upendra Kumar, M Ranga Rao, Vijay Bhaskar, Rajan Nagendra, C Ashwath (Nagamadala), MM Keeravani, Hamsalekha , V Manohar, Mano Murthy (America America), and others. She has also sung with maestros like Dr. M Balamurali Krishna, KJ Yesudas (Live in Chicago), PB Srinivas, SP Balasubramanyam, and Dr. Rajakumar.
Sangeeta Katti is also a recipient of the Suvarna Karnataka Rajyotsava Award 2006-2007 (Highest honour of the state).
