Sundar Sarukkai was born in 1963 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, but brought up in the garden city of Bangalore. His father, S. K. Rangarajan, was a professor at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He was naturally attracted to science and philosophy due to the upbringing he had.
He was at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore from 1994-2009. His research interests include philosophy of science and mathematics, phenomenology and philosophy of language and art, drawing on both Indian and Western philosophical traditions.
He is the author of the following books:

He has also co-edited three volumes on logic. He is an Editorial Advisory Board member of the Leonardo Book Series published by MIT Press, USA and the Series Editor for Science and Technology Studies, Routledge. Presently, he is the Director of the Manipal Centre for Philosophy & Humanities, Manipal University, India.
